Thomas Philip Arbitration Seminar

Featuring Dan Tan And Balan Nair Thamodaran

On 27.03.2015, Thomas Philip hosted an arbitration seminar which drew a sizeable crowd of lawyers from all over KL. The seminar featured talks from Mr Dan Tan and Mr Balan Nair, partner and head of Arbitration at Thomas Philip.

Dan Tan is the principal of Dan Tan Law, an international arbitration law firm based in the US and Singapore that has been ranked amongst the top arbitration and litigation practices in the US and the world (Euromoney Benchmark Litigation, 2013 and 2014 Edns; Global Arbitration Review 100, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015 Edns).

Mr Tan drew from his experience as the principal of Dan Tan Law, on building an international arbitration practice. Over light refreshments and wine, an insightful discourse took place over topics such as the differences between an international arbitration practice and the traditional law firm set up, the common factors considered by international clients in selecting arbitration counsel and who the ‘common players’ usually consist of in the international arbitration scene.

This was followed by Mr Balan Nair’s presentation on interim measures in arbitration. From the strength of his personal practice in arbitration matters which involved international arbitrators, Mr Balan Nair detailed the breadth and depth of interim measures and its significance in practice.

With that, the event entered a relaxing Friday evening atmosphere with drinks and performances by local artist Talitha Tan in Thomas Philip’s very own music stage.
